My Open GL modelling program :D
well ive finally finished an alpha version of my cocoa-opengl program to help with my game development, and to test it off, i made this rather simple model of a Nintendo GameCube. check out the picture(compiled using screenshots).
check it out....
(200KB approx.)
i'll be making a model of the xBox, PS2(if i can find pics of it from every angle) and hopefully an iMac.
what do you guys think ?

Cool!
That's really great work, the more so since you wrote the modeler that made it. that's really impressive indeed. i'm a bit of a modeling nerd myself, although i actually favor a CAD tool to do it, just because that's what i'm best at. but i've long wanted to get into creating a toolset to use, too. it's great to know that it can be done. Very cool!
Damn fine work!
I wrote an app that did 3D modeling with B&W shading for my Mac Plus in 1990
.Mike
Awesome.
congratulations on that !
I hope your initiative is followed others so the Mac becomes more attractive as a platform for that market !

thanks guys, really encouraging

im looking for pics of the xBox and PS2 from all angles. Using google image search, but cant find them. but ill keep looking.
here's an xBox without the actual sides and bottom. bt it still looks ok.
(144KB approx.)
here's a mushroom i made long before the alpha version was complete.
(76KB approx.)
Cheers

more models.
feast your eyes.
any requests ?

okay..
so do you know all the math behind this stuff, like all the linear algebra?
Basically what I am getting at, is can this be done with out taking a whole bunch of computer graphics courses.
(I have the math knowledge though)
cus, I am interested in playing around with OpenGl.. is it difficult? what books did you use?

well yeah.... personally i know almost nothing there is to know about using 3D packages, like Maya, Strata, etc. i have althought used strata and Maya PLE (which got me interested since i coldnt really afford them
).
And yes, it is my program....all math...trig n linear algebra, etc. (preety ugly if you ask me, but the result seems to be preety close to what i wanted).
I was a CS major with an elective in OpenGL
...so i did have some formal training in it. i also attended WWDC2001 and got started on Cocoa and OpenGL on OSX..... there's a weath of info online for both opengl and cocoa.
if you want to get started with opengl.... i highly recommend the must haves 'red book' and 'blue book'...they are the bibles. (red book available online for free... http://fly.cc.fer.hr/~unreal/theredbook/ (read it from cover to cover, it's the foundation to 3D modelling and basic opengl))
for cocoa..... look at the documentation online and the O'Reiley books to get you started. youre gonna have to fool around with this a lot before you realize it's potential. it's a process and i havent reached the destination
...as soon as i get there...there's something you will be able to add/change/optomize/improve with the functionality you discover when you start using it. (by the way it's taken my about a year to get it to this point, but the foundation has been laid.)
Next step..... skeletal animation and inverse kineamatics(gawd only knows what that mean...but it sure sounds good
)

Very nice!
I whish i had more time learning Cocoa...
Very Excellent!
Myself, I am into 3DMFs and QuickDraw 3D with RealBasic. It has less learning curve, but I have no future as a pro game developer.

keep it up and movin forward.

It works well, but what is the interface like?

What sort of PS2 pics do you want? I have a PS2, a good digital camera, and I can free up some time. Post some specs or an example of the photography style and I may be able to help

Not very impressive. i havent spent too much time in interface design yet. i just wanted to get the functionality i needed into the thing. But luckily given the flexibility of cocoa, it's preety easy to rearrange, etc. here's a pic...
(i'll be the first to admit...the interface could be a heck of a lot better
Also, mediaman. thanks dude
.... ill need pics of each 'side' or 'face' of the PS2. (total 6) preferably on a single colored background (just makes the photoshop work a lot easier
)i think a size of 512X512 should be more than sufficient (for each side).
Thanks.
damn, thats just beautifull. Can't wait for the iMac if you ever get around to it

Use brushed metal and a single window multi-paned interface with collapsing and expanding sub-sections and you'll have a winner soon enough. Call it iSomething and sell it to Apple hehe
iSomething ? how about 'iAnything' ? really?
..... yeah i was pondering making it a single windowed app w/ brushed metal, but at the same time ,i was hoping to convert it into a multi-document app. As far as the multi-pane goes...thats almost a sure thing.... just considering my options.
PinkOx, here'a an iMac... the model is fine, but it's bloody hard to find texture or descent pictures of it, so i ended up drawing most of it in PS7.
(200KB approx.)
Cheers.

here ya go
Did some photos this evening. Unfortunately they where too dark (and a bit blurry, no tripod, see) or they had a huge flash over most of the PS2, so they where useless. Will try again tomorrow during the daytime.
How about doing the PSX. Sonys new PS2/DVD player recorder/PVR home entertainment thing.
Good pics are available here

Demonhood, i did look there
. but i need pictures of it from all sides.
that just gave me the 'front'. as u notice in my model there arent any ports of the back, and the back of the iMac screen dosenth ave a log on the back.
but yeah.... mediaman, that PSX looks preety cool. ill make a model of it a little later.

Lovely iMac
Do you have any way of implamenting the shiney (chrome) reflective textures yet, or have you already? Just wondering. I envy your application-creating abilities.

good observation dude. i am just completing the implementation for material properties, that will take care of shininess, ambient, specular , diffuse properties

cheers.
The Sony PSX...

This is an amazing looking app!! What's the learning curve like?? Great work Hawk!
Managed to get these before the battery went flat this morning
Flat Side
Back
But I have found some other fairly high res shots
Front
top
angled
DVD draw out
Also this image of the warning that is on the underside on the 'non stepped' end (this is the only detail on the underside)

Very very cool pics!, you are really Talented!
Well Done!

Wow. I'm very impressed. How long did it take you to make your app?
It took me quite a while to write a simple command line app for automating predicate logic proofs. Something of this complexity just boggles my mind.

Are you having speed problems? Obj-C is a bit slow, compared to C++ or C...
