We were 14 years old.
There was this very long, steep hill near the neighborhood, covered with all these scraggly bushes. Normally, you just couldn't run down a hill this steep. You'd easily lose your balance and fall head first into a roll.
But there were bushes! Surely we could run as fast as we wanted down the hill, and smash or grab bushes on the way down to control our descent. So we did. There was a freefall feeling interspersed between the sting of a bush whipping across your chest and legs. It was the closest we would come to an extreme sport.
The next day my friend did not show up for school. I went to his house to see him. He cracked open the door just a little, revealing the most hideous blisters up and down his entire arm, neck, and face. He looked like he had leprosy or was a burn victim. It was incredible. He would only open the door half an inch wide. "Poison Ivy," he said. "The bushes we ran through were full of poison ivy." And he slammed the door saying "Go away." He was out of school for a week.
And that's how I found out I didn't react to poison ivy. This came up recently again when my wife was helping a cat in the neighborhood. The next few days she was getting horrendous itching and swelling. We though maybe it was lice or who knows what -- but why didn't I get anything? I touched the cat, too. She finally figured it out after a few days.

My dad is like that. Impervious to PI.
My mom is not. My mom is like a PI-magnet.
I keep wondering which gene I inherited, and vascillate between levels of paranoia when I walk in the woods. I've yet to get it though.
Didn't help any to discover some of it on the edge of my lawn. Go go gadget weedkiller!
In short, you are a lucky bastard!
(check out this site: http://www.poison-ivy.org for more wacky PI stories. And pix that will make you paranoid.)

It's nice not to be a PI-reactor, all right. I'm sure people have told you, though, that with repeated exposure your immune system can one day decide to fight back, so be careful!
Someone I know so admired the beautiful red fall foliage of a plentiful vine growing near her beachside home that she gathered armfuls of it to bring home and put in vases. You can guess what it was. (She was from Europe and was unfamiliar with the plant, but recognizes it now!)

And herein lies the catch. I have no idea if I react to poison ivy or not, because as far as I know, I've never even seen poison ivy, much less come into contact with it. But we do have a word for it (two, actually, both vedbend and efeu), so I guess we must have it somewhere...

I'm telling you, go here http://www.poison-ivy.org and you will see all the variations on PI. And then you will never dare set foot in the bushes again.
I react badly to it. More often than not, I'd get a case of poison ivy after playing paintballs or disc golf. The worst experience was after an outing of disc golf, I came home and went straight to bed without showering. Two days later my entire body was covered with red blisters. My penis had swollen to twice its size (go ahead bring on the jokes
) and my balls were itching like mad. I really wanted to just kill myself to end the misery. Instead I went to the hospital and they gave me some kind of steroid shot. The blisters and itching cleared up within 2 or 3 days. Steroids are great!

-- I have 2 extra ribs and 1 extra vertebra.
-- My football coaches in Jr. High School once called me into their office to tell me my mom was hot and inferred there interest in "getting some of that."
-- Discovered that I have been "connected" to the mafia at some level my whole life.
-- I'm in my 30's and play Dungeons and Dragons.
-- I have been injured during rough sex.
I'll try to come up with more. On a less personal note, there are not 3 days and 3 nights between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

I'd love to get back into that again. I still have some old D&D Gary Gygax albums hidden away somewheres. That and some funny dice. Cool clear ones. The 20 sided one's a beauty.
Back in my old neighbor hood a lady a few blocks over would burn her leaves in the streat and wash them down the drain. One year she got the bright idea to clear out the brush along the back of her yard along with the leaves.
Did you know that you can get leasions in your sinouses and lungs from the vaporised oil from poison ivy?
She does, nearly killed her.
