I have an ancestral version (the Rebel XS) of the camera you're getting, misc. You'll be happy. The only thing is that the lenses Canon includes with their cheap bodies are crap. Completely useless. They're not sharp, they have bad color rendition, and are very slow. The results look like they came out of a $50 point-and-shoot.

Once you add a proper lens, you will do fantastically well. I recommend a 50mm prime at 1:1.8 or 1:1.4 for starters. (I had a 1:1.8, but it broke. I need to get a new one!)

Umm, the Rebel Ti is a 35mm film camera. The 300D is sold here as the "Digital Rebel".
