How to transfer PowerMac warranty?

So I sold my G4, and the fellow wants the remaining 1 year warranty...how do I do this?

I know with AppleCare, you hafta send a letter, but I can't find anything anywhere about just the standard 1-year warranty. Do I call a #? Write? If anyone's done this before, any help would be appreiciated

I'm sorry, but I usually end up keeping mine past the warranty period of AppleCare. It would be useful information to know though. Good luck!

Warranty is automatically transferred with the machine. All the new owner needs is proof of date of purchase, so include a copy of the original receipt.

And if you want, you can just call AppleCare and tell them the name of the new owner. That would help things out should he need to use the service. It's really very easy. They don't hassle you at all.

Your post isn't very clear. You say he wants the remaining 1 year warranty. How old is the computer? If it was purchased in the U. S., it only has a one year warranty, unless you purchased Apple Care. Then it has two additional years.

Just send him to http://register.apple.com/ and have him register it in his own name. Then, if he ever takes it in for service, Apple will look up the serial number in their database and find his name.

To clarify things:

For AppleCare: I believe you have to notify Apple in writing. If you call the AppleCare support number they will give you the details.

For the standard 1-year warranty: No action is necessary. I called and confirmed this myself when I got my iBook G4--I had already used up my 1 educational purchase for the year but I needed another computer. So I had my girlfriend purchase it with her educational discount and then give it to me. The Apple person I talked to said no problem, there's no action required.

Awesome! To clarify, 2 months remain on the original 1 year warranty. I'll just tell him to register it in his own name

Not sure about this. I sold my iBook 500 with a year left on warranty this past fall. I never notified Apple in writing but I did call them. The buyer also called them and in an e-mail told me it was fine. I don't know if *he* notified them by writing or what, but I haven't heard anything since so I assume it's still OK. He has until August of this year. Then again, maybe he just hasn't sent it in for anything.
