Travelling in the States by air these days is a joke. Long lines designed to waste people's time.
I can understand increasing security (and getting rid of stupid things like asking people if there's bombs in the suitcases) but I've been surprised how slow and awkward things have become in the past couple of years.
A couple of months ago, I headed back to the States to visit my family (been working abroad for a few years) and the headaches I had to go through, though I had a good laugh when I warned the security guard that I had been wearing the same socks since leaving Singapore the day before and while they likely wouldn't explode, they might not be laundry fresh.
Just give yourself extra time and a strong dose of patience.
