IMHO, the only thing you might be missing is NOW with Bill Moyers. In the Boston area, it's on Friday evenings on PBS. He's had a wonderful roster of interviewees this year; people with interesting viewpoints who you won't find elsewhere. But even this show can be caught on the internet; and he's retiring soon, sadly!

Long ago when we lived in California, we didn't have a TV either. We couldn't afford it at the time. People in LA where we lived thought this was either a) some kind of weird religion, or b) just incomprehensible. More people there had TVs than had phones at the time.
