Why does the new SLK 200K deserve its name while it has a 1796c.c. engine?

Is it one of those marketing techniques to fool the average customers?
Yes., and it often works.
Why did they call the Chrysler 300M a Chrysler 300 if it only made 280hp?

Who knows.

BMW did that with the 3 series engine sizes for ages, not sure if they still do. Put it this way, if you had a choice of buying a car called a 280M or a 300M, you'd get the 300M, right? So they round the numbers up, because it sounds better.
It's smaller than the Mclaren SLK?
