Running OS X of an iPod is not recommended. The disk is too slow and not meant for all that constant spinning (tight enclosure, no fan).

Get a disk warrior CD and you'll have all the troubleshooting tools you'll ever need.

(Plus you get more space for music).

Too bad you went for the 3G iPod. The button layout really suck.
