The purple one was photoshopped a little to brighten it up, the other was only re-sized.

first one...
composition could be a little better...(interesting perspective though)
the flash is a little harsh...
second one...
again overall subject location and composition a little bland...
not bad though...
ye... DSLR is the way to go nowadays...
my skills and quality of my shots have dramatically improved when I got my D70....

Agreed. I don't find macro shots of flowers all that impressive.

Photos are pretty good, if you want some suggestions, perhaps you could try and get the pictures a bit brighter? Since you're outside, you should be able to slow down the shutter speed and a let a little bit more light in. My other suggestion would be to move in closer for the tiger lily, you don't need to show the entire flower and it can create an interesting composition. Zooming a bit more on the purple flowers wouldn't hurt. I like the black and green contrast in the background of the purple flowers

The tiger lily is about 5 1/2 feet tall and facing the ground with the sun directly behind it. I didn't think the flash was too harsh but the damn flower ain't goin' nowhere, so I'll give it some more tries Mon. or Tues. (I'm working all this weekend - 36 hours
) I agree about the blandness, but I really liked the contrast and the color.
I've got plenty of subjects to shoot, and I will take criticism to heart!
Thanks!

ahhh here kitty kitty
I like the contrast that the flash gives to the tiger lily against the sky.
