Foam Earbud Covers - Where to Get Them?

Here goes the shortest thread in MacNN history. I found them myself at Radio Shack. They have two different options: the usual foam covers and silicon covers. The foam covers cost $2.99 for four and the silicon covers were a dollar more for the same number.

Why even use the covers? I never have...

Yeah I've never used them...I put the first ones on when I got my iPod, they fell off later that day and I never bothered to screw with them again.

If'n you want fancy colors.

I use the foam covers also, as they make the buds more likely to stay in my ears. Since no one else seems to use them, at least that I know, I always have a ready supply of replacements.

I use the ipod earbuds when my good ones break. I am using 'em again since i'm waiting for my new earbuds to come in. the foam keeps 'em grippy and soft.

I don't know why anybody would use the Apple earbuds... I think they are the weak link in the whole iPod experience. I've had 4 ipods and don't even open the earphone package anymore... I don't know if its cause I'm more picky (I'm a recording engineer...) or its cause my ears have a funny shape but the Apple ones sound like sh#$.

I recommend Sennheiser earbuds. Not the ones with the volume control on the wire(ads noise) but the model just under that. Fairly cheap and sound great. Tried the in-ear types but there's something disturbing about having the sound directly "in" my head...unsafe really

I tried the Sennheiser earbud type headphones (MX 400, i think, £20 from Maplin), took them back and got my money back. The sound wasnt that great, and the wire was too thick and stiff, not as flexible as the iPod ones. Whenever I moved my head, they would want to stay where they were and the buds would move around in my ear or fall out. Saying that though, most in ear headphones tend to fall out of my left ear for some reason. I've gone back to my iPod headphones now, even though one of the buds crackles at high volume (loose wire?).

I agree. I use them when my "third party" earbuds die. I love the Sony MDR-EX51/70/71 stuff. They are fragile though, so I ordered the MDR-EX81's ... Hope they turn out better. They are in ear canal phones, but run approx 25-30 bucks on amazon (ex81's were from ecost)

they are well worth the money, just be gentle with 'em.

You will LOVE the MDR-EX81s! They provide instant comfort to the point where you forget you're wearing them and they block out a great deal of the outside world. Their sound is great (especially for the price!) and if you *do* like having the full spectrum of sound "inside your head" you'll flip.
