[mobile phones] Sony-Ericson K700 vs K700i
Hey gang!
Perhaps you can tell me the difference between the two, i.e. SE K700 and SE K700i. I can't seem to find specific info about it online, the two seem to be treated pretty much equally. Perhaps there is no difference?
Thanks!!
cheers

Just the K700i as far as I know of, SE website only lists a K700i.

Maybe some dealers refer to phones without the letter on the end, just the number. So they would advertise K700 instead of the proper K700i name.

this thing is pimp:
too bad we'll probably never see it here.

I don't think there's a K700 either.
I can, however, testify that the K700i is a great phone.

K700 is just a shortened name of the K700i. There is also a Chinese version K700c.
Calling Star Wars Guy....

Looks fragile
AFAICT, the K700i is the international version of the K700. It's the same phone.

That's a nice phone, but feature-wise it's just mid-end.
The only SE phones I'm interested in right now are the K750i and the W800i.

Thanks for the info!
I just went and got the K700i and I am very pleased with it. I was upgrading from a T68i so it was a big leap.
cheers

my co worker has it. for over a year now actually. while she likes the menu's the graphics and user interface, she hates how the phone is a little bit laggy (sometimes lags a bit while surfing through the menu's etc). Not sure if it's just needing a firmware update or not, but .. yeah. just fyi.
i plan to pick up a k750i next week. supposedly faster, newer .. ehh .. (shrug) .. wish the screen was a tiny bit bigger

Yeah, that can be a bit annoying at times. For me, it mostly happens if I'm browsing through pictures (all quite big, so understandable, I think), but once in a while it'll do it some other place as well.
I personally love how the design of the phone fits my PB's design so well (though I had the phone before the PB)

Took a firmware update of my K700 to fix the menu lags. Also supports AAC now too
My new one had the latest firmware when I sold it (last month), and the menu still lagged a bit.
The 750i is hot and I plan on picking one up in the next few weeks if it works with the Cingular network around here. Where's the best place to purchase one?

The W800i is even better (although the betterness is due to the firmware and bundled accessories).
P.S. Pix of the Motorola E790 iTunes phone are now out.
That looks really nice, I think, that iTunes phone there. I wonder how much it will run. It should work with T-Mobile, no?

Yes of course. However, I suspect the phone's camera will suck. Here's hoping I'm wrong...

The W800i does look nice, but it's not out yet is it? I also would imagine with the included 512 mb card and Walkman name it would command a price premium over the 750i.
The Motorola looks interesting and I look forward to it's release and actual specifications.

I also like the Z520i (I want a clamshell phone!!!
)
But yeah, the K750i is pretty cool. A friend of mine bought it last week and I had a chance to play around with it. Animated icons...some pretty cool features, - I just don't know if I like the "black" color.
I wouldn't mind getting the W800i either. Here's hoping that the "iPhone" really IS a software solution. Though Sony with it's own proprietary music "dowload service" might actually block any iTunes software.
The biggest problem with Sony is they never release any of their damn stuff in the US. How the heck can I talk about their phones when the only ones I see are an odd looking candybar every few years?
I hope this iTunes functionality carries into all of their phones

I do not notice any lags with the K700i.

Since you are a San Franciscan, I'll let you in on a few things...
(IRVING STREET) In the sunset .. around 19th'ish .. there are a bunch of cellphone shops there. I am expecting to open a T mobile account at the one nextdoor to the starbucks on the corner of 19th and irving. tmobile has the 1000 peak minutes unlimited night/weekends deal going until july 10th.
As always, Chinese folks have the latest phones.
You could have gotten the k750i 3 weeks ago at the shop i'll be getting it at
. Retail, the phone goes for 460-500+
without an account. But since I'm opening up an account (well two ... me and my friend), we'll be grabbing the K750i at a price of 110 EACH (plus tax) .. SWEET.
Also, the K750i can be flashed with the W800 firmware (which has already been done by a few folks), the buttons and all functionality works fine. I prefer the k750's black to the W800's gaudy orange.
Oh and uh .. yeah .. the white SE flip phone looks good. Clean ... stylish.
I have no faith in motorola ... the razr looks good until you compare it to other phones and notice how BIG it really is. it's thin sure .. but it's wide and tall. That, and it's UI, Icons, phonebook organization, built in ram, crappy camera, teeeny external lcd that has a HUGE black border to suggest a larger display .. meh. Cool as it is, SE is the phone for me.
picked up my k750i. like it a lot

Is it compatible with iSync? That's the main reason I got a K700i - all my contacts and calendars are sync'd with my Mac. Is Apple even updating iSync any more since it (stupidly) offloaded .Mac and iPod syncing onto different apps?

Did they have the "Z520i"?

What in the hell are you talking about? sony releases 90% of there phones in the US. If your provider doesn't offer it that is not sony's problem. Not to mention some of the phones sony doesn't come out with is because they are 3G phones which American providers haven't pushed yet.
Samsung and Nokia are the ones that don't release as many products in the US.

Correct.
Don't blame Sony Ericsson. Blame Cingular (and Rogers) and the goverments which have built everything around 850. These companies thus much prefer phones that support 850, and will only select a subgroup of phones from Sony Ericsson to support this.
Most of the rest of the (non-3G UTMS) phones are available in North America, but are not sold (and thus not discounted) by Cingular or Rogers.
BTW, This is very annoying for me now. I am on Fido in Canada. Fido was strictly 1900, and had very good support of 1900. Rogers is on 850 and 1900, and their 1900 support is mediocre.
Rogers bought out Fido, and is now deactivating much of the Fido 1900 network. So, I'm stuck with Rogers 1900 with my Fido T610, and my reception has gotten noticeably worse in areas.
Because of this, I just bought a quad band phone for my GF (850/900/1800/1900), and should probably get an phone with 850 too for my next phone, which basically kills any chance I have of getting a K750 or W800 any time soon.

Good, technically 850MHz band is better than 1900 as 850 doesn't bounce off glass as much and penetrates concrete better. I can definitely say I have seen a huge improvement even getting reception in some subway stations.

I know where you're coming from, but the only way to ensure good penetration in subway stations is to put repeaters in them, like they do in shopping malls, and in subway stations everywhere else in the world.
