ShapeShifter and MenuBar oddity
Hi,
I've already sent a request to Unsanity about this but they seem mostly overwhelmed nd maybe someone can help me with my problem.
I'm using ShapeShifter under Tiger (10.4.2) and the theming of the menubar is incomplete, I mean that on every reboot the Apple's menu items (keyboard, clock and spotlight) do not get themed. I've other items which are not menu items per se (Synergy, StuffIt and Konfabulator) that do correctly get themed.
When I trash the content of the ShapeShifter Cache (~/Library/Caches/ShapeShifter) things get back to normal for a few reboots but soon the problem reappears). If I apply a new theme in the PreferencePane (with the option to restart the menu items selected), it works until I reboot (sometimes the first reboot is ok but not next one).
The only mention of ShapeShifter I got in the console is the following:
SystemUIServer[216]: Welcome to the WSX:Carbon
SystemUIServer[216]: [Haxies Crash Guard] Looks like this application has crashed before, not loading haxie com.unsanity.shapeshifter for it.
The first line is for WindowShade, the second, I suspect, is the cause of my trouble. Unfortunatelly the message is rather cryptic as it doesn't mention which process got broken (neither do I find another mention of a crash). Neither do I know how I can get rid of it.
I nether had this issue under Panther and I believe it only occured recently.
Anyway, my partially-themed menu bar is not aethetically nice.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can circumvent this problem?
iMac G5 (2nd generation) - 10.4.2
Many thanks,
Raf

You logged off and back on?

I rebooted which is equivalent. The problem seems intermittent, yesterday I trashed the cache folder, restarted, re-selected a theme, restarted and it was ok. I restarted another time just to be sure that the problem didn't occur again. And this morning when my iMac booted, the problem re-occured. If I reboot, it doesn't go away.
I've seen no crash report in either /Library/Logs or ~/Library/logs.

Raphael, are you using Snapz Pro?
Yes, I do.
Would you like me to post all items that I have that are not Apple's own software? If you like I can search for it.

Removing SnapzPro from the Login Items solved the issue. Thanks for the tip.
However, do you know if you can solve this conflict between ShapeShifter and SnapzPro?
I remember an issue existing with MightyMouse under Panther (multiple cursors on screenshots). However this apparently got solved with 2.0.2version of SnapzPro.
Thanks for your help,
Raf

I had the same problem. SnapzPro always kicks
the menubar out of whack when it launches. But
it's a pain to have to launch it manually when needed.
Think SnapzPro should have an option to switch
off its splash - very in your face company advertising.
I think the splash is in the 'Snapz Pro X.rsrc' file - maybe
needs a hack if its a simple 'cut and paste' job.
The incompatibility with Snapz Pro is fixed for an upcoming ShapeShifter 2.1.2 release.
Alternatively you can set Snapz Pro to use a key combo other than Command Shift 3 or Command Shift 4. And then God should be in His heaven and all should be right with the world.
Smegger,
Rosyna,
Many thanks for your quick answers and your quick fix.
I'll be waiting for the 2.1.2 to be released. My cmd-Fx keys are almost all used either by DragThing or by Apple's own shortcuts.
As an old user (think I started on Mac Pluses with 6.0.3 a long time ago, I'm still used to apple-shift-3 (I know I know Apple recommends cmd and not Apple for the key).
Anyway, many thanks.

Now go get some tacos.
Thanks, it works fine now... just got nervous when I didn't saw my menu extras, but it turns out their display is just delayed until a certain point.
Many thanks for the quick feedback,
