Question About the 4-Day Window After MacWorld to get free iPod

Question About the 4-Day Window After MacWorld to get free iPod PowerPC 12 posts Sep 4, 2005 — Sep 6, 2005
Does anyone know, perhaps based on previous update histories, how soon after MacWorld at Paris will the new Powerbooks be available for purchase? I am waiting to get my PB after Sept. 20th, but if possible I still want to snag the iPod deal which expires on the 24th. Does anyone think I'd just be able to go onto Apple's website sometime between the 20-24th and order up the newest and get the iPod? Any help would be awesome!
I think if Apple releases new PBs in the later half of Sept it will be on the last day of Sept which means we won't be able to take advantage of the ipod deal. My guess is based on previous PB update dates on Macrumors buyers guide.
Yeah, was thinking of doing the same...but given the latest news of no keynote by Jobs, I'm not sure any new PB will surface until October...after the free iPod promo is over.

My plan is to wait til Sept 20 and then pick up an iBook and free iPod if no PB is introduced.
Yeah that's a good idea. I think I am gonna do the same. Hopefully they will announce it on September 20th, so we will know what the difference is, oppurtunity cost, etc., then we can make the judgement whether to buy or wait. I AM SO SICK OF WAITING THOUGH! Arggg. I really need one soon....

I'm still not sure about that. Even if the new PBs aren't announced, the rumored updates (1mb cache, 50% lower processor power consumption, higher clock speeds, etc.) might be good enough to warrant waiting until the end of October at least.

1mb cache would lead to a 20% increase in performance, approximately, and the new processors would increase batter life by a similar margin. These aren't negligible updates. Plus, if you wait until after they are updated, you will own the most powerful and the last PowerPC Powerbooks in existence.

I'm leaving my laptop to my sister on Sept. 21st and coming back to the USA. School starts on 29th. I'm willing to stay laptop-less for 2-3 weeks as I can easily use the computer labs on campus.

At least that's what I tell myself.
Oh, I already have an iPod. Otherwise I would consider the iPod deal more seriously of course.

The only thing that would really make me wait it out till October or forgo the current PB 12" is if they come out with a new size (i.e. 13.3" widescreen).
Yeah, the increased cache, etc...would be a nice bonus, but not enough to offset a free iPod mini.
Of course all of that could change if they annouce new iPods tomorrow along with the Motorola phone. Or they might announce new Flash based iPods at Paris as well.

Damn Apple for playing with such tight deadlines!
What is tomorrow?

The day after today...

Tomorrow Apple and Motorola are hosting a special event to release the iTunes phone (and possibly new, flash-based iPod Minis).

It's possible that Apple cancelled the Keynote to avoid taking attention away from tomorrow's announcement. They want to keep the focus on the exciting new iPod products, rather than on their less-than-blazingly-fast portable lineup.

(Of course, I myself think the iBooks and Powerbooks are preferable to any other laptop, but the press will correctly view continued use of the G4 processor as a weakness.)

Maybe tomorrow's announcement will shed more light on the cancellation of the Paris Keynote, and the status of the Powerbook 7448 update.

My question is: if a flash-based iPod Mini is introduced, will the laptop+free iPod deal apply to it? That would be amazing! But the very existence of the rebate makes me doubt that the new Mini will be announced tomorrow--I thought the end of the rebate (ending Sept 24) would coincide with the availability of the Mini. I suppose they could still do it that way.
Ok, WAIT A MINUTE PLEASE!
Cancellation of Paris keynote? What? Is this for certain? I have been waiting desperately for Worldmac, please don't tell me I have to wait an extra month.
Oh, and I don't want the free ipod to use it, I want to sell it right away- that's an extra $150 off plus I am getting the $200 educational discount on the PB 12" Superdrive. Plus I am sending it to new hampshire, so I get no sales tax charged. besically, the only missing link is what the new ones will be and how soon I can get my hands on one. adios.
No new power books for several months. I get my special promo for the 12 15 and 17 inch till nov.
