It doesn't. The USB SuperDrive requires a modern Mac without an internal SuperDrive, it takes more power from the USB ports. MacBook Pro with Retina display MacBook Air iMac (lat…

Use PowerPC for a week? — #32

OK! Edit: Total: US$75-ish. Can probably be offset by selling some stuff (like my iBook G3). Also, does Apple's USB SuperDrive/MacBook Air SuperDrive work with OS X Leopard on a …

Use PowerPC for a week? — #30

Plans have changed. I am not going with a TiBook, but an Aluminium PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz. I am getting an 80GB hard drive for it. (Total: US$60) Is 1GB RAM sufficient or should I g…

The Ultimate List of Compact Mac Variations — #40

Fair enough, I've never seen reference to a platinum original face plate or bezel and (sorry) am not convinced it exists, would love to be proved wrong (gives me another variant to…

The Ultimate List of Compact Mac Variations — #39

Only in rumor and conjecture does an original face-plate design exist in platinum. Same for the original keyboard (without numeric pad). That is not to say they do not exist, just …

The Ultimate List of Compact Mac Variations — #37

Does anyone have any photographic evidence of the existence of this one: M0001D Macintosh 512ke (platinum color, original style face, no stamping on front) I can't say I have ever…

Use PowerPC for a week? — #29

8.1 won't run on a TiBook. Maybe someday OS 9 though I do 1080p video editing though. Maybe one of those G5 OS 9 hacks.

I like the case too, which is why I bothered getting something that I can't boot OS 9 directly from.

OK, good to know.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't messing up a prototype before I started stealing parts.

512k Prototype? — #8

Datecodes make it seem unlikely to be a prototype. The 512K was released in '84 but the IC date codes there are all from late 1985, such as 8547, 8543, 8598 and another 8543.

Well in theory only the mobo could be a proto. The rest would not be, just an unlabeled case.
