Unconquest: Closet space! — #4

I set 4 broken iMacs on the curb last night, as well as an IBM typewriter, some dead stereo equipment and a broken Apple StyleWriter, all from the (overcrowded) warehouse. I could …

Powerbook 180c issues — #7

The necessity for the system battery to approach its full 7.5V (NOTE: not full charge) before a depleted backup battery will recharge you will find many references to in these foru…

Duo Type 3 battery questions — #3

I took a quick measurement of the biggest dent, and it seems to be 1mm, maybe a little bigger give or take. The other two noticable dents are definitely not bigger than 1mm.

Apple II internet — #17

I did this quite a few months ago with same setup (Classic and a IIgs). Amusing, yes, but it's easier just to use a disk with AppleShare and put the Finder on the Classic, IMO.

Duo Type 3 battery questions — #2

Depends - how small? If they were more than 1mm deep, I'd be dubious. Have you a lesser Duo you could try it out in?

I've found its way easier to give old macs away on Freecycle than to find them! I've dispatched 3 mostly broken G3 iMacs and a G3 Minitower to happy collectors/tinkerers in the la…

Powerbook 180c issues — #6

Well, I think the 16 MB is from software (i.e. RAM Doubler). So it has a 4 MB chip installed, along with the onboard RAM.

IIsi ROM SIM gives death chime in my SE/30s — #12

The System 8 UI looks absolutely awful in monochrome. The System 7 one was finely tuned to be minimalist and work on small monitors. The System 8 UI assumes only madmen run monochr…

...running OS 8.1 on these systems, but I never thought people actually did it seriously, since a 16 Mhz 68030 is probably not the best CPU for running such an OS. Click to expa…
