Memory sizes are not like hard drive sizes. Since memory chips operate in powers of 2, 4GB of flash memory should actually be 4GB. Apparently, the iPod OS takes about 300MB. Chris

Yes you can use the nano to store files. Since it can't use firewire (except to charge the battery) I don't think a Mac could boot from it, but I'm not sure.
