.kext problem in G4/733 DA — #1

I'm preparing a G4 as in the title for my wife, who currently uses an eMac/1GHz, so that she can use an ADC Cinema Display HD (23") with it. Erase and install (using a SuperDuper!…

Steel wool best for corrosion removal? — #7

There is indeed something better, and it's designed for the purpose. It looks just like a toothbrush, except the brush bit is made of brass (or copper?) wires. I can't recall whe…

Steel wool best for corrosion removal? — #6

What gets rusty in an old Mac or IIgs? RF shielding and power supply cases, surely? The metal chassis doesn't tend to rust unless it is very badly scarred and stored in a damp envi…

Steel wool best for corrosion removal? — #4

Steel wool is just an abrasive. Why not use glasspaper or sandpaper? The residual grit still needs to be washed away, but it is far less conductive than steel wool.

Dead FireWire on a G4? — #6

I tried all three ports including the internal. In the OS 9 system profiler, it does not show any devices, just a few bits of gibberish like "g45dv, 7hd5h" for the bus and some oth…

Dead FireWire on a G4? — #5

I think that the only G4 which shared the seperate Firewire board with the yosemite was the yikes. As far as I know, all sawtooth mobo's had the firewire fully integrated.
