I've got 1 gig in a Pismo 500. It makes all the difference. It's the most important upgrade you can make. My wife's iBook only takes 320mb and I wish it would take more.

Going from 256 to 512 or 768 will yield a significant gain in performance, but going on from 768 to 1gb doesn't give much gain. At least, that has been my experience.
