I don't think the DOS card would work in a 6400 since it has to connect to either the PDS slot of the 8100 or a NUBUS slot, neither of which the 6400 has.
The closest you might ge…
Had an amazing haul at Goodwill yesterday, best in ages!

I really want one of these. The best place to look is probably ebay Germany and hope the seller understands English and is willing to ship it to you. Most of the less well known cl…
I have long advised against formatting 1.4MB disks as 800K. I read they were unreliable in just about every book on Macs and wanted to see for myself.
Way back in 1995, I covered …

Congrats! New 800k floppies are hard to come by these days.

Yeah, and trying to format HD floppies as lower density floppies is almost always unreliable at b…
I had two conquests late this afternoon, both of which I feel are worth sharing!
First, for something I can use with my old 68Ks. I got two brand new shrinkwrapped boxes of floppi…

Does that one SE have a SuperDrive floppy or is it 800K? If it's SuperDrive, then you will save yourself half the battle; 800K floppies can be done, but you'll run into many brick…
I'm running 6.0.8.
I don't think it's in the Trash (no bulge) but I'll check. I did delete the old System Folder so I could reinstall 6.0.8 with the SE/30 specific files (It had …
There's no way that you or someone else may have moved it into another folder, or even into the Trash is there? Unlike most operating systems which require their system folder(s) t…
What System version are you running? Systems 7.0 and 7.0.1 had a disappearing folder bug which was fixed in System TuneUp 3.0 and Systems 7.1 and later.
Ok this has to be the oddest thing that has ever happened. I booted up my SE/30 and my system folder isn't there. The HD doesn't seem to indicate it's even there so it's not off …
So let me get this straight. If I have "Dirty ROMs" and I have 20MB installed. Will it show as having 20MB in the About Finder menu? (but in fact only have 8MB usable until I use…
LCGuy is correct on that.
IIfx ROM-SIMMs are 32-bit clean. The only issue you'll have is a bit longer of time to startup the SE/30. Sometimes it can vary depending on how much R…
As a follow-up to my own question which I asked on another group, the AppleFacts books were used by the Apple Sales representatives, which explains why basically no one

Yes, it shows 20MB, but how much of that is free? If you have "dirty" ROMs, and MODE32 is not installed, the extra RAM will appear to have been used by the system.
In other words the ROM SIMM address pins are numbered for byte-wise addressing, while in practice the ROM SIMM is wired for word addressing (four bytes per address).

And we should note, for those who might try to use this information, that A0 and A1 are not connected to the address pins on the ROM chips on the module. A2 of the ROM SIMM conne…
