I know there's a theme activated, but I thought I knew all the other hacks that would work in OS X. Putting custom text in the menu bar is a new one to me.

It's quite easy to do with dev.tools, just edit Menus.nib in finders resources (/System/CoreServices/Finder/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Menus.nib) with interface builder.
