Hi guys and girls...
as you all can see, I'm new. My first question tho isn't a very simple one, so let's start.
As student, everybody will agree, you naturally don't have a lot …
I think upgrading a 1400c at this point has diminishing returns. The 1400c was a venerable notebook when it was new, but it's pretty useless for even today's office applications. F…
Well, I'm not making any plans on listing my new Laptop on ebay again, I just bought it there. Let's set this clear: I don't have the money to buy an iBook, even not a used one.

Word 5 and ClarisWorks 4 are stellar for older machines. Also look into the iCab browser, and Eudora lite 3 as an email client. They all run nicely in low resource environments.
That's a good tip, I'll try to find those. As said, It's just a better typewriter for me at first, maybe something more when it really suites me. But I'm not going to spend $800 fo…
I actually ran 9.0.4 without complaint on my old 1400. I primarily ran Office 98 and PageMaker 6.5+. PageMaker didn't run that well until I got a Newer 250 upgrade and 64mb of ra…
I've got the rev a titanium, 500. I'm running with the original 256meg configuration. But I live in os X. I never go back.
From what I remember of my OS 9 days, the computer wa…
Of course more RAM helps! Doesn't matter what computer you have - if you are running Mac OS X, you need to get all the RAM you can.
I suggest having AT LEAST 384 MB of RAM to run …
I had a PowerBook G3 400 MHz with 192 MB of RAM, and running Mac OS X 10.1 was useless because it was too slow. I upped the RAM to 768 and it had a HUGE improvement from booting up…

When I upgraded from 256 MB to 512 MB in my PowerBook G3 (Pismo),

I think it is VERY difficult to get pageouts in OS X if you have more than 384mb of RAM. I recently boosted my Powerbook Ti 550 from 256 to 384. OS X was slightly more responsive, …

I've got 1 gig in a Pismo 500. It makes all the difference. It's the most important upgrade you can make. My wife's iBook only takes 320mb and I wish it would take more.

Going from 256 to 512 or 768 will yield a significant gain in performance, but going on from 768 to 1gb doesn't give much gain. At least, that has been my experience.
I upgraded to 640 at the same time that i upgraded to 10.1 so I wasn't able to what the difference was. However I also replaced the hard drive with a larger (but I think smaller) …
How'd you get into Princeton with that kind of grammar?

Thanks to everyone for these posts. Very helpful and thoughtful and pursuasive...
I'll be ordering 256 more megs tomorrow from OWC. That's all I can afford... (Canadian dollar…
Actually, I think even MacWorld reviewed computer speed with various upgrades... Can't remember what issue though. The cheapest upgrade that made the most difference in performanc…
