Next time, a good idea is to use software such as TechTool and a cleaning diskette to clean the floppy drive.

This is good advice. However, that won't get r…

If I recall, back on the old Snitz board I hit over 5000 posts. And I will admit - I did more than my fair share of postcount++; back then - I was young, and despite being 18, stil…

Speaking of being a cranky ol' coot, although I don't, I don't achieve this nearly as much as the other ops, but I've been a member of this community for 7 full years as of just ab…

Have you used Asanté EtherTalk Installer v5.6.1? Ideallly the software is installed before OT 1.1.1/1.1.2 so that it cannot overwrite OT with older componets. It is by no means e…
Some of those Asante devices aren't full-fledged Ethernet->Localtalk bridges, but rather, dedicated printer adapter devices.
Easiest way to do what you want to do is to get…

I'm surprised to hear that alcohol worked -- that's a bit counterintuitive. I've always used WD-40 as a solvent (NOT as a lube here). It works a treat, as the saying goes. Wipe eve…

Sony MP-F75W-02G is another one. There are probably other model numbers out there too. AFAIK, the spring in a generic floppy drive is slightly different. And fiddling with such pro…

As far as I know, vintage Asante kit doesn't work at all with modern networking equipment. You need a 10 Mbps hub (very cheap) in between your DSL modem and your Quadra 605.
The head was loose to. So I ironed it, and I fastended the spring. And it looked good and "closed", but it didn't work
So I must buy Sony MP-F75W-01G, Sony MP-F75W-11G or Sony …

You won't be able to get that read/write head to come back down again. I know because I accidently did the same to one of my drives. Any Auto-Inject Sony SuperDrive mechanism will …
