If it's working you should see this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3212/2617623548_c853957170_o.png it would be grayed a bit if your not connected to a network.

yes i went in and made sue the airport was selected and even turned off all the security on my dlink router. nothing . how can you tell if the airport card is working?

Have you set up the ibook to connect with airport (instead of, say, ethernet or modem)? DHCP selected?

Does the DLink need a password? If it does, try typing a $ before the password. That sometimes works.
