1 GHz eMac G4 Prototype Motherboard (rest later) — #7

Not seeing a P86 listed, and Apollo was used for the Classic II. That being said, P88 was used for the 1GHz TiBook, and it's not like Apple never recycles codenames.

1 GHz eMac G4 Prototype Motherboard (rest later) — #6

It does not help too that Apple's modeling number system is a joke. MacTracker shows 5 "models". 700/800mhz April 2002-May 2003 800/1000mhz May 2003-Oct 2003 1000mhz Oct 2003-Ap…

1 GHz eMac G4 Prototype Motherboard (rest later) — #4

^ Not sure what you mean, but there were 1ghz models. And as much as I hate the eMac, thats cool. Protos are always sweet finds! And an EVT in the wild is an odd thing. PVTs yes, …

CPU upgrades and 9600 board faults... — #5

The Sonnet card will work well, and one day look out for one of their later G4 700/800/1000 upgrades which also run well in the 9600, and reliably.  It will feel like a new machine…

CPU upgrades and 9600 board faults... — #4

Sounds like all systems are go then. Might do the switcheroo then. Would I be right in assuming the majority of programs wouldn't really be able to make use of the multiprocessi…

CPU upgrades and 9600 board faults... — #3

Never heard of, Sonnet upgrades are usually very forgiving and don't tax the machine like others (with selectable bus, multiplier speeds .... Sonnet did none of that), so I'd go fo…

CPU upgrades and 9600 board faults... — #2

That does not ring any bells for me.  Doesn't mean it never existed, but does mean that it must have been pretty obscure if it did. There were issues putting G4 upgrades into the …

Apple I (Replica I) Project — #2

I have never built one, but the idea of making one (and getting some soldering skills in the process) for less than US$50k or whatever a totally beat-up Apple I usually goes for. (…

Reformating a SCSI Drive — #3

I agree with Macdrone. Apple Utility HD will format the drive if it is working. That is a Big if. What kind of noises is the drive making? Anything other a constant high pitched w…

Reformating a SCSI Drive — #2

Well you can try Apple HD utility on a system 7 floppy.  But I am gonna jump out on a limb and say the hard drive inside is stuck or dead unless you know it was erased.

Even if the motherboard is busted in the XPS there is still really nice components inside. I'm surprised the owner didn't salvage the really nice parts on the inside.
