Could you take a photo? I don't think I've ever seen an "external disk drive icon". What happens if you boot an earlier system from the internal floppy, like System 6?

I've had read/write problems with bourns in the past, but not this. Uniserver or technight would be the experts on that.

The internal floppy is working ok. The warning box shows a Mac with an external floppy drive next to it with the warning. Should have clarified that

If it thought it was the floppy, it would show a floppy icon. Do you not have a floppy you can boot from?

I would guess the floppy drive is stuck in and it does not move or something to that effect.
