If it doesn't work on other computers I would call Apple. This happened with my wife's shuffle. I had to send it in to be fixed.
But all is good now!

Have you tried doing a factory reset? Sounds like something might have gotten bunged-up, but a lot of times, if it's a software issue, a restore can fix the problem.
