We have a PB-3400 that is still chugging along just fine! It has been updated with a 6 GB HD, max RAM and passed along in the company as senior people get new Pismos!

This isn't true. I bought a 4 GB drive for mine a couple of years ago (from MCE), and they told me that the only problem with larger hard drives for the 3400 is that if they're abo…
Oh, by the way, our PB-3400 was one of the early model PB-3400/200c with the active matrix display and the 6x CD-ROM. When we did the update, we added 128 MB of RAM (total now 144 …
Greg2384828245, maybe I'm confused about what "SCSI Disk Mode" is? We used to routinely atach our PB-3400 to a desk top PM-8500 and it would show up on the 8500's desktop as an ext…

SCSI Disk Mode is what you did with your 8500. You hook up the PB3400 to the 8500 with a SCSI cable and a special SCSI connector on the 3400, and it shows up as an external HD. Que…

Greg2384828245,
We could NOT use the drive in SCSI Disk Mode.
Instead, we had to use an Ethernet Crossover cable and set up a "Mini-LAN". Another option was to set up an IR connec…

Just installed a Travelstar 6GB in 1400. I think if you partition you can still use the PB in SCSI disk mode. Won't get to try it here for a week or so.
Maybe there were problems…
Ratoc, Newer Technologies and a few other companies make firewire PCMCIA cards. I don't know if you'll have to upgrade the cardbus to except 32-bit cards though.
The Firewire and USB cards out there require Cardbus, which is 32-bit versus the 16-bit PCMCIA. A 1400 cannot be made to use a Firewire or USB card for that reason. It cannot be …

It does sound like the Cable Problem. It happened to me twice. The first time after 3 months and then again after 15 months. Apple repaired it for free on both occasions.
Many thanks for all the informative information; I received my PowerBook yesterday. http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/smile.gif
