G4 Required. The ZIF upgrade will get the system over the line but Apple has removed the kernel extensions for Gossamer and Heathrow so you will still only see a kernel panic. You…

how long before — #2

When it does fail, you can hook it up to another monitor, or put it's hard disc into a b/w g3 or similarly old G4 tower.

Upgrading my Beige G3 — #11

you best bet is finding one with an 83mhz grackle and switching out the roms. best of both worlds. If you get the high end sonnet, you can only run at the 66 mhz anyways though.

Upgrading my Beige G3 — #10

So in a sense, if I want to overclock, maybe it would be better to stick with a Rev A board? Then I can just buy a pretty decked out G3 (well, nothing very fast) and stick with thi…

Leopard on G3 AIO? — #2

You absolutely need a G4 to run Leopard from what I understand. Luckily you can drop in a G4 ZIF as long as it's 66 MHz bus compatible. The oldest I've heard is Leopard on a G4 up…

Upgrading my Beige G3 — #9

The rev A motherboards were the only ones that did 83Mhz I think (kind of like how the Wallstreet 1 did 83Mhz FSB while the later wallstreets were stuck at 66Mhz only).
