So I took a few seconds off collecting old Thinkpads to snag a free for shipping Wacom Digitizer II (Model UD-0608-A). It is here with pen and stand and seems to work.

How many people here have drawing tablets and what apps do you guys use mostly with them?

I've got the old Wacom Serial 12" x 12" with pressure sensitive pens and a digitizing puck (I hope I still have them, anyway!) that I used to use to digitize KBD Matrices w/the puck in one of my CAD packages. The pen I used to capture script and swash detailing for signmaking using Fontographer a/o Freehand.

Never did like the pen/tablet combo for use as a general pointing device, so I never even tried to develop a command overlay. I used a Nostromo SpeedPad for programmed command keys w/my left hand and a mouse in the other. I found that combo much more efficient for doing any repetitive tasks, like reformatting/resizing/cropping etc. in GraphicConverter.

It worked out pretty well w/Flight SIMs too! [

I've got a small collection of 2-3 Wacoms and some other old but huge serial tablet. One of them will eventually end up in the tabletised Duo, and I expect another one will end up being used to control music software, with printed screenshot overlays.

By the way, from my research it seems the Wacom pens are compatible with the old touchscreen Thinkpad tablets

Wacom pens are generally not all that interchangeable, so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

Wacom made the digitizers for the Thinkpad T series.

Wow, I never knew anyone else who used a Nostromo! I bought one for WoW originally, but the command overlay also made me a lot more 'productive' at general Finder and web tasks. Unfortunately, 10.5 killed the nostromo.

I could have sworn that my friend had his working on his G5 running 10.5. However that was an n52 and not the original.*shrug*

I was looking for a while until I found one just for shipping ($ 8) . Seems like quite a few come without pens making them useless or people jack up shipping too much to bother. Kind of like when I wanted a kensington adb trackball and ended up getting a few locally (free) inside lots people were tossing.

If I get used to this model I might go looking for a large PC version with the digitizing mouse to work with an OLD version of DOS Autocad.

The only other ADB device I could use would be a hand scanner or webcam.

I don't think either of those would work over ADB very well. The QuickCam barely worked over the serial port.

Silly me, they probably were serial devices that may have used ADB for power (if that).

I had two SCSI hand scanners a few years ago. Those were very weird devices.

Oh, I had an n52 as well. Maybe it was Intel's fault!

Someone was writing custom drivers for the Nostromo at some point, I wonder if they ever got finished.

Otherwise, ControllerMate would likely handle it, if $30 is OK. I upgraded my USB Overdrive and it supports a lot more devices no so maybe that will work also.

Edit: I think I'm completely wrong, and Belkin eventually released a new version of their drivers since the last time I looked.

I use my N 52 on my MacBook and my iMac both are Intel systems and there was a long time that they didn't have a universal driver that worked on the Intel Macs but they released one about a year ago. Hope it works for you.

I upgraded my USB Overdrive and it supports a lot more devices

I'll give it a go at my Kensington Turbo Mouse on the far side of a USB-ADB adapter and report back.
