Remove Cigarette Smoke Smell

I've recently relocated my Color Classic from my mom's house, where it's lived happily since 1993 choking on cigarette smoke.

I think it is going to need a recapping, and the 160meg hard drive in it gave up the ghost. I'm also about to to a full teardown and de-yellowing soak in h202 and Oxy Clean.

Any thoughts on if I can liberally coat everything electronic with contact cleaner and let that take the smoke smell out, or will I kill things if I do that?

the only thing that cuts through that nasty is 91% IPA.

Well, I do think the Retr0brite is a good idea for the case. Are you going to recap the board or send them off? If you're doing it, wash the logic board at least.

I've never had success removing smoke smell completely from stuff, honestly. I've sold things over it.

I must get myself one of those!!

Much nicer than pouring it onto a paper towel; just spray it directly on whatever I'm cleaning and go at it, like Windex or 409 (does 409 still exist?).

I've never seen this at a physical CVS, but then again, I never thought to look.

FYI, Friedman Bros. (a chain of local home improvement warehouses) sells 91% IPA by the gallon.

So, back on topic.

I have an Apple 12" RGB HiRes monitor, and it stinks of cigarette smoke. It's mostly dissipated by now, but I suspect that the moment I turn it on, it'll begin to stink again.

That being said, I will watch this thread intently for a solution.

A good vacuum will take out fuzzy bunnies that smell like El Tobacco... but then washing out the case, boards and frame will be needed. Also the mouse and keyboard too.

Indeed, try cleaning out as much as you can. This includes internal components if they can be washed. You can wash some components in the dishwasher.
