SCSI ZIP drive on the LC, USB ZIP drive on the MacBook Pro. This requires more work, because you need TWO drives, one for each system, but it does increase capacity per transfer 70 times.

Ultra-complex multi-computer networking setup, where the two systems don't talk directly to each other; but both talk to a single network share that shares both AppleTalk/AppleShare and Ethernet/NFS. (i.e an AppleShare IP 6.0 Server with AppleShare bridge.) Then you just write them TO the network share from the LC, and grab them FROM the share on the MBP. (Or just use them from the share.)

what I have done is I have a linux computer (any debian-based distribution that uses apt for package distribution will make this really easy) with netatalk installed.
Here's what I did:
that creates a server that your macbook pro and your LC will be able to see with the hostname of your linux box. just log into it with your linux username/password and it gives you access to your homedir. (you don't need to connect your OS X machine to it with appletalk though, you can use sftp or smb or whatever other connection method you might like)
How do you hook the LC up to it?
The best option is to get an LCPDS ethernet card, but in my setup, I'm using a PowerBook 180 which doesn't have ethernet. Anyway, I'm using an ethertalk to localtalk converter on that machine. on one end it has ethernet, and on the other end it has a phonenet connector that plugs into the end of a normal phonenet ring.

This is really neat and geek way to connect computers, but now all I have is a: LC 475 with an Ethernet card, MacBook Pro and one Ethernet cable. How to connect this pieces of hardware via Ethernet cable? Should I use a FTP protocol? TIA.
Unfortunately, and somebody may swoop in to correct me on this, I think Mac OS 10.6 removes most of the old appletalk features.
If you have a TCP/IP stack on the LC, your best bet may be to enable FTP on the macbook pro and use an FTP client on the LC III, or use AFP over IP, which you'd do by opening Chooser on the LC III, clicking on appleshare (I tihnk that's what it's called) and then clicking on "Server IP address" and typing the IP address of the macbook pro.

I use Fetch 3.0.3 on my LC and turn on FTP on my OS X Mac.
Don't forget to binhex or Mac binary your files before transferring, or you'll lose the Resource Fork.

I got a FTP connection between MacBook and vintage Mac, now how exactly can I do that?
Drop Stuff will binhex a file.
I'm unsure if simply Zipping a file will work. If you download MacZip for your old Mac, you could try just zipping a file on your MacBook and see if it transfers OK.
Unfortunately MacZip uncompress unreadable files and quits with an error. Where can I get Drop Stuff or which version I need?
