You know, I'm sitting here at 4:10 AM EST and thinking about the whole Internet phenomenon. As of this year I am 29 years old and remember growing up without the Internet. I remember mostly going to school, riding my bike, and listening to music on cassette tape.

1995 was the year I entered college and actually discovered the power of the Internet. Funny thing about it was that discovering Internet porn was a major motivator for buying my very first computer.

A lot of us take the Internet for granted but sometimes I just have to step back and acknowledge how communications has changed because of the net. I mean, you don't need to use stamps and envelopes anymore, if you want to learn about a subject all you have to do is google it, matter fact I met the girl I'm currently talking to from an Internet forum. On top of that, I couldn't be sitting here typing these random thoughts without the net.

I guess there really is no point to this post other than me sometimes having the need to put things into perspective. Any thoughts?
Remember when there were no fax machines? How did we get by?
I remember my first internet experience was the meeting point in eWorld (who of you guys used this?) where I didn't really know what I was doing but soon found myself chatting with some guy from New York!
This was back in 1993 (or 92/94?) and I was using a GeoPort with 9.6 KBits/sec speed and the NCSA Mosaic browser - not very much WWW back then!

The biggest change in Internet experience was my DSL connection 4 years ago though - flatrate and highspeed made it all totally different!
I remember my uni daze (graduated in 1989) and having to sign up for a time to use the computers. And how progressive I was because I actually owned my own floppy disc and had stuff in MacWrite on it.
Internet porn on a 14.4k modem via usenet.

.......................... slow.
I remember growing up without internet. And then suddenly it is here. I don't remember and evolution in the form of internet or anything like that.

I do remember that once, during my first experiences with the internet, I felt the world had become a smaller place, since in a matter of seconds I could be talking to someone half way across the planet ... just like that ... it was amazing.

Now internet is something we take for granted, and see as routine to surf it. Shows you how quickly we can get accustomed to something, just think how much we would miss it if it just stopped existing one day ... there are probably like a gazillion e-mails going back and forth every hour of every day ... as of this moment suddenly being without internet would be like going back to the stone age ... I guess.

I bought my first computer because of games ! Now I have them because I can't work without them. Such luxury ... consider the fact that maybe 50% of the world population has access to the internet, we're spolied !!

Ahh, yes, I had a 14.4k modem but then I went and bought a "BLAZING!" fast US Robotics 28.8k for like $100.00. Never perceived a difference in speed at all.
How did we even SHOP back then, without the Internet.
All that good stuff, you'd never find at Wal-Mart

I was a card-carrying MacNN member long before we had the internet on computers.

It takes a WiFi'ed village to raise a child these days.
Imagine a world without porn.

Shudder.
