I haven't worked at a reseller in a while, but I have kept in touch with my old boss, and they still pay more than the educational prices.

I remember when the slot-load iMacs came out in 1999. The low ($800) model only made a store about $60 profit -- in other words, about $0 after shipping and overhead. God forbid someone needed support on one of those, it'd put us in the hole.

As tooki mentioned...resellers hardly make anything on the physical sale of a machine; however, they do make money off the support if they can sell that along with the machine...

Not sure how things work over there but here the discount level resellers get is based on a quarterly (?) assessment of their operation.

Taken into account are things like the previous quarter sales, level of customer satisfaction (number of returns etc), the quality of the sales area (if we're talking walk-in store/showroom), the training and competence of sales staff and a host of other things.

It's a shame. Apple ruins independent dealers with these prices.
Plus, all other conditions are not really nice either.

We'll, I guess Apple would rather see their own stores everywhere, so they get the profit...

I think it depends on the product, but education prices are about what resellers probably pay.
