Yep, back in '96 actually...Pippen/Jordan were really fast; however, Paxson was slow...
OK, I got my college degree in Biology in Pamplona in 96. Runned from 94 to 98 (my last time in San fermines). My father did, my granndfather did. It is a tradition and probably the best place to party if you like wine, bulls, and huge crowds.

Viva San Fermin

That's to be expected. After all, Paxson had retired from playing basketball two years prior and was working as a manager for the team.

I bet I could outrun Jerry Reinsdorf, even if he were wearing white socks.
I would run with the bulls in a heartbeat. My wife thinks I'm nuts.
Someday...
Basically it's all about the corners- stay on the inside. The Bulls don't conrer to well, and the outside's bad news. And if you get hit or just fall-STAY DOWN.

Yes I ran with the Bulls in 96. Scary, stupid and short. But at least nobody died...
Hey Paully, how old were you in 96? And why do you say it was stupid? Because of the risks?

And is it true that it is disrespectful to touch the bulls?

I was 22, just outta college. I travelled in Spain, amongst other places, ended up in France, long story. I also attended some corridas in Madrid.
Apparently some American kid my age had been killed the year before... But evreyone was saying it was only the stupid tourist who died - they did stupid things like get up when they they were down, and ran on the outside of the corners.

I heard about the touching thing, but nobody said anything to me at the time. I was just after a big Hemingway, Blood in the Afternoon experience. And yes it's risky. The streets are narrow, and crowded and well I wasn't going to do it, except I was with these two Spanish friends that practically forced me to. The bulls near me didn't really seem to be going after anyone, but I was being pushed forward by the throng. And then it was over, and I went and drank about a thousand beers.

It's stupid because it's risky, and frankly I'd just as soon leave it to the locals and watch. After all it's the noobs who get killed the most often, giving it a bad name.

edit: wow, 96 was eight frigging years ago! How old am I?

Yeah, but b/w the battle of the assistant coaches Cartwright was beating Paxson during practice left and right down the court...
