It's been awhile since I have heard any really GOOD metal coming from the "scene" I think Alice in Chains was really the last I liked.

About a year ago I was lent a Black Label Society CD. I've bought every single CD of theirs since.

Layne Staley had a great voice; it's too bad he was a dumbass with drugs.

Audioslave has got potential, but I don't know if they are planning to put another album out or not. If so, then I would definitely give it a try. Outside of that, there's not much I'm excited about.

Not sure if I would put Audioslave and BLS in the same category.

Some of their songs are good....

It's more like hard rock anyway :-)

Nothing beats the good ol' Metallica.

HALLS OF JUSTICE PAINTED GREEN
MONEY TALKING
etc
etc

I wasn't comparing the two. Although I suppose Audioslave could be considered alternative and not metal. Some of their tracks are metal-ish however. I'm a fan of Zakk's stuff with Ozzy (ozzmosis and earlier), but I'm not so much for BLS.
Old Soundgarden was metal.

I know Mindfad's favorite band is Linkin Park
Linkin Park is OK...

but wayyy toooo depressive. For me anyways.

And I hate the little fat asian DJ thingy they have. WTF?

little fat asian DJ - Mr. Hahn

he adds the hip hop flavor with the scratching and what not.

i can see how you can find it depressing. i like it though. i know alot of people who like some of their songs and hate others.
I'm going to Ozzfest next Friday

No.

They are neither okay, nor depressive...they are depressing.

I went through puberty and teenage angst and all that, but dammit, Floyd, Hendrix, and the Doors are at least decent music and a soundtrack you won't feel embarrassed about in ten, fifteen years.

I'm probably just too old.

Would Rammstein be considered metal? They're a cool band still around. I first heard of them from the Lost Highway soundtrack.

yeah depressing is what I meant

their lyrics are almost always about anger. there is no story at all.

metallica really is one of my favourite bands tho.

Oh, and take a listen to this.

Best drumming. Ever. Regardless of genre.

You call that good drumming? Even Phil Collins destroys that rubbish.

Yes maybe, since the topic was metal, or what passes for it these days.
My mom even tried to tell me that Cheap Trick was metal...

edit: For me at least, Metal didn't have too much staying power, but if you really like it you tend to venture out into other guitar rich genres.

I really liked lots of different metal, Ride the Lightning was once my favorite album, but then again so was Inner Mounting Flame, Abraxas, Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, Electric Ladyland and so on.

Let the kids have their fun, they'll come around eventually...
I must be weird because I've been listening death and black metal since 80's.

What is it? The phobos link doesn't work for us iTMS-impaired Euroweenies (which is to say, it would, but the track isn't available here).

This is what happens when you live in Finland...

Get thyself to the tropics!

It's this cd by Anthrax.

I'd never heard it before, so before saying anything, I listened to the samples on the ITMS. Having done that, while the drums on that album are definately solid rock drums, I would not say that they are the "best drums ever".
It's all horrible, headache inducing stuff.

BLS will be playing.

I am thinking about going to one as well just to see BLS.
wtf? this is supposed to be a thread about metal and you haven't mentioned a single "metal band" in here!

[edit] okay...took me a while to post this...but still..linkin park = metal...wtf

Hey, early Genesis was great. Pre-80s. The Peter Gabriel years.

Your kitty ears are just too sensitive.
it seems bands get moved from genre to genre as they age. Not sure if they evolve with the times or the genre just changes. i.e. - Led Zed is considered as the 1st heavy metal band... however, most consider them classic rock or hard rock these days. I caught a band called Kataklysm (sp?) a few months ago... though they were pretty cool... although it was just one song on hb's ball.
