Spyware on this Navy computer

I am tired of getting bombarded with pop ups here using this Navy computer, so I downloaded and ran Ad-aware on it. A whopping 350 infected files and stuff! Wow!
Navy?

Hell, just stick that damn P.O.S into the water and watch it sink then...
Nah, I don't want to litter the waterfront here. I wouldn't give two dirty nickels for these PC's that the Navy uses. They are still STILL stuck on NT 4.0.
Damn, you need yourself a Navy PowerBook. Would they let you bring your own machines with you, or are you restricted to whatever they have?

Oh man, we have to use whatever the Navy has hooked up to the LAN. They'd have a cat if we hooked up our computer to the LAN. That's tantamount to total chaos.

Now you're talking.
I'm surprised the navy won't throw you in the brig for violating some DOD IT or 'information assurance' policy--even though they are obviously failing miserably.

That makes sense ... they wouldn't want you bringing in anything that might breach security
They are more concerned about porn than anything else, I think. The LAN that I am on is the unclassified LAN. The classified ones are in buildings with no windows that you can't even get a cell phone in, much less your ThinkPad.

They aren't making you go to NMCI?
yeah. my dad works weapons system development program management in a vault...cant even bring in a digital watch, let alone a Palm or cell phone. In fact, they recently had the cow here about those Coca-Cola cell-phone-in-a-can promos at this base.

The funny part tho, they have white-noise generators running 24/7, secure phone terminals with card security and biometrics, double-baffled ductwork, store their removable hard-drives (from crappy Dells and eMachines no less) in a separate vault at the end of the day... all that and then they have a total low-bid phone system that doesn't even HAVE time-stamping and often delivers voicemail days or weeks late.

Always getta kick out of my dad calling me from work..."Son, just got your message, whats up??" "Uh, Dad, that was from like three days ago, you just got that?"
Mr. Moe, take us aboard!

You don't get it. He's calling you from the past.
