Apple registered a design...
Damn, I was hoping a slinky would be the new "arm"...

Could you imagine watching a iMac go down the stairs on it's own?
That is an interesting design. Another six weeks and we will get to see the actual product.

I'd rather it do that then follow me all over the place, and then stick it's tongue out at me...
That design, I'm afraid, is nothing new. Those pictures have been around for at least a year.
My guess is that the new iMac will be a complete case redesign. There's no way they could get a G5 into the current cases; it just plain runs too hot.
My guess, actually, is that we'll see a pizza-box main CPU with the screen on a hinge in the front. Think of a PowerBook, but put the screen on backwards. Make the main box a bit thicker so that you can put a DVD drive and a couple of ports in the front, and you're golden. That lets Apple get the more manageable airflow of a rectangular box while still looking cool.

No, but I could very easily imagine a bunch of PCs going down the stairs "on their own".

As per usual, Millenium knows his stuff.
(That picture is old
)
I had once reasoned that the only way to do an Imac with an LCD was by putting the computer itself in the base. Besides it could have been useful for something like holding the keyboard, and was a given for using cheaper desktop components.
I think it still holds true. Most "Fat LCD" computers have very whimpy processors and those that don't have REALLY fat enclosures (see the vaio all-in-ones). If you stuck the imac behind the screen sure you might have a convection cooling idea but guess what happens when you tilt that screen back.
I say it's either going to follow in the footsteps of the G4 design or be totally headless. Keep in mind when I say this I just mean the machine being in one enclosure and the screen another.
It's ungraceful, if not boring to do something everyone else has done before.

Damn, you noticed.
I think that was a prrof of concept for the current iMac. The next one will need to look different enough to establish itself as a new machine.

A lot lot longer. That was one of the original concepts for the 'neck' (whatever).
