Trying to create a topic other than religious:

So tonight I had nothing to do, so I decided to buy Vanilla Sky on DVD. Here are some of my initial reactions:

1. I have never talked to my powerbook before... but I kept doing it tonight (the DVD was playing on my powerbook). I like watching movies that have cool twists, but this was just weirding me out and I needed to express my reactions to my computer.

2. I was really sad by the end. I don't think I've ever had a movie make me root for the main character and his hottie to work it out in the end. I love the way it ended, but it was so damn sad... plus I loved the way that (at least I think) the woman telling David to wake up at the end was Sophia's

3. I am never getting in a car with a psycho that I am sort of screwing around with but trying to screw around with other people too (as if I'd have that problem)

4. I think I will be up till 4am, not because I have something to do, but because the movie got me so interested and excited to find out what was going to happen next that my heart rate is still a little elevated (which means I'm about 60 now, as my rate is usually hi 40's - I'm a runner).

So here's where I wanted this thread to go (but you can send it what ever way you like):

1. How did you like V.S. when you saw it (if you did)? I know a lot of you saw it a while back, but I don't get around to a lot of my movies till a couple years after they were released.

2. What was your favorite movie that got you in this kind of way? Everyone has different reactions to certain movies, but what movie excited you and brought a mix of different emotions?
Great movie.

Cameron Diaz gave me the creeps.
I loved it...bought it in fact. It caught my attention right from the beginning and love movies like that. I need a twist, it had it.

Movies that make you think are good...and you know they are good when you have to watch them again, and again and find new things every-time.

I would love to see the original European version

Anything by David Lynch will do that to me. The first time I saw Lost Highway, I was feeling the same way. The critics hated it, though their was this mood to it that I couldn't ignore. I like how the beginning and end kind of looped together.
Cameron Diaz gave me a feeling that I haven't had since junior high when this ugly girl really liked me... and would do ANYTHING for me.

Abre los Ojos!
interesting start and progression. good soundtrack. disappointing ending.
Vanilla Sky was a superb movie. Great story, art direction, and music. It all added up to an ephemeral dream-like quality to it. Definitely one of my faves.

How would you rather see it end? Just curious if you have an alternate ending scenario.
I love Vanilla Sky, and I love the sound track as well. One of my friends that also really liked it said he thought it perfectly captured the feeling that you have as a bloke when you fall in love with someone. Maybe it's a non-action bloke-flick, as my girlfriend just thought it was lame.

Another film that I liked in a similar way (and love the sound track to as well), that left me feeling a bit like that was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And my girlfriend left the cinema thinking that was just average too
:Shameless promotion of Iceland and Icelandic music:

For those who liked the soundtrack, you should take a look at Sigur Rs. Here's the official site and it allows you to dl a number of songs for free.
I loved Vanilla Sky. I think it is one of the most underated films in the past 10 years. So heartbreaking...
It also helps that Jeff Buckley was both mentioned and played in the movie!
Sucked. Ass.

On my all list of all time worst movies.

Why? I'm getting a lot more feedback from people who liked it than those who didn't, and I'd like to know why some people didn't like it.
Forget Vanilla Sky. Go rent the original, Abre Los Ojos. It was executed much better, IMO.

Just didn't like the plot. Moved too slow, not my kind of movie. It just didn't keep me entertained. A little to off-beat and freaky for my tastes. Nothing personal, just didn't like the movie.

I think I know what you mean. Like climbing the rope in your shorts?

I thought the "TECH SUPPORT!"-screaming scene was awful; also, when he jumps off the building as a "final test" or whatnot...a little too campy for me. Honestly, I thought it was more interesting when it seemed like there was this sweeping conspiracy against the arrogant young executive...

I would have liked if they went with the scared of heights thing a little more. It really was played on enough through out the film. I actually kind of enjoyed the "TECH SUPPORT!" scene - I wasn''t sure if he really knew what was going on at that point, if he knew he was in a Lucid Dream or not, but it just added to his fealing of total insanity. But that's fine either way. The whole conspiracy thing didn't interest me much at all... unless somehow they had the 7 dwarfs putting him in the Lucid Dream, but then that could setup a more campy ending with him somehow righting the wrong.

I kind of like flaws in a movie anyway - gives you something to discuss
I liked their usage of Good Vibrations!
Like some have said already:

Abre los Ojos is the one to watch/buy/rent/steal.

Luckily I watched the original first.
