Some of the difference was probably due to taking a lump sum instead on being paid over time.

Nice story.

No, often they give you the option of periodic payments up to the jackpot amount, or else you can get a smaller lump sum amount.

EDIT: Beat me to it.
Language, Zimphire!
What percentage would he lose with the lump sum and how much with taxes? Seems like the state gets a good deal out of the situation.

If there's one thing that needs updating, it's family law. The wife cheats, then gets the house and most of the money? That's ridiculous.

That's why pre-nups are a good idea.

Maybe just a slut? tramp?

Whore will do.

BTW LBK I didn't know "whore" was a four letter word.

Cheatin' bitch gets 0%. A nice round number.

I'm sorry, but how do you know the shoe fits? You only have one side of the story. Perhaps he was cheating as well? Perhaps he was wasting so much time and money on lottery tickets that he was no longer paying attention to her anymore? Perhaps he was abusive, either physically or mentally? Furthermore, even if he was a model husband, her having an affair does not necessarily make her a "whore"; "whore" or "slut" implies that she was having multiple affairs simultaneously.

Finally, "whore" isn't the sort of word I expect to come out of the mouth of someone who claims to have the religious convictions you claim to have. It even isn't a word I would ever choose to label someone with, and I don't claim to have half the moral convictions you would (by virtue of the religious beliefs you claim to subscribe to)

3...2...1.... FLAMEWAR!

p.s. Maybe he would have never bought the winning ticket if not for her ways. You know, cause and effect.... or not. Whatever.

he said it on purpose, so the thread would turn out like it has. see, now you've brought religion into it, so he gets to roll out his "haters always start it" speech again. how very dull.
GIS came up with this...

OMG!!111! You bad person!

It's amazing when people take up for those who obviously don't need it in here. And then those who do, get put on a pedestal.

No drama. Just disappointment.
If I was calling her a whore and telling her she was going to hell, you might have a point above.

There is no justifiable reason to be cheating on your husband.

If she wants to have sex with someone else, she should break all ties with him. Not doing so, IMHO makes her a whore.

whore __ _P___Pronunciation Key__(hr, hr)
n.
A prostitute.

A person considered sexually promiscuous.

A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.
But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

John 8:1-11 (NIV)

Moral: when asked the question "What would Jesus do?", the answer is often the opposite of what Zimphire would do.
No, I didn't stone the woman to death. Nor would I. I am not saying I am any better than she is. I'm a sinner too.

What Jesus said was, pretty much only one man has the right to judge someone's life. Unless that person is perfect.

I am not judging the woman in this way. Jesus wasn't coming against them calling her an adulterer. He was coming against them for trying to STONE her for it. That was the old law. He was there to replace it. That is why he said "Those who are sinless, cast the first stone"

Jesus also would tell them to "go and sin no more" telling them they indeed are sinners AKA adulterer AKA whore

The people here would probably try to tell Jesus "who was he to tell her she was sinning" Pffft.. and then call him a child molester.

But anyhow, what you are basically telling me is, It wasn't alright for me to "Judge" her and call her a whore, but it's perfectly ok for you to point your fingers at me a judge me for calling her that.

I am sure none of you realized how hypocritical that was before you hit the reply button.

Sorry it didn't work the way you thought it was going to.

Are you saying she wouldn't do it till hell froze over?

BTW I see most of my fanclub here doing it's job

That is filling their Zimphire obsession. You fellas really have no self control do you?

That would explain a lot though.

no, i'm saying hell freezes over, because actually for once i agree with you. (yes, i'm ashamed)

I don't think anyone can say with a straight face that she is not. Well one questioned it.

But when that tactic didn't work, a new spin was used. The "You shouldn't be judging her While it's ok for us to judge you" silliness took place.
