Amusing Apple PB/Best Buy Story

I was at Best Buy after work today looking for a digital camera for my wife, and they happened to have a Mac Mini right across from the cameras. He said that they sell out as soon as they get them in...

Anyway, that made me ask him if they had any Powerbooks there (knowing full well that was a silly question). He said no, but that a customer told him that the G5 powerbooks were coming out in May, and when that happened, BB was going to push to get them in! The customer claimed that it was officially announced. I found this to be intersting news in my quest to buy a 17" PB, and told him that they had just updated them in February, and that in all my searching online, I had heard nothing about this offical announcement.

This guy took this information to be gospel, but he then decided that he better do some research before he continued spouting this info.

Probably a wise idea!
????????

I have already set my mind that if i buy this month the PB g5 will be out in sept. (and I 'll work hard this summer to afford that one too)

maybe i can email steve and ask for one free rumor confirm.
I just purchased a PB. It's therefore a given that a new G5 model with a terabyte of RAM will be out in a few weeks.

Since when has Best Buy been an Apple reseller????

I have never seen Apple products in any Best Buy anywhere I have ever been...

Apple and Best Buy got in a fight back when the latter refused to carry ALL G3 iMac colors.
I remember when Circuit City carried Powerbooks. Now they don't any more.

I'm not sure dropping the Powerbooks hurt CC at all. Why buy there when you can go to the Apple store. It's not like they sell them cheaper.

Actually I'm really happy that the Apple store has given us an alternative to CompUSA. (A nightmare store if there ever was one!)

I just wish the Apple stores were closer to me. I am in West Michigan (near Lake Michigan), and the closest stores are in the Detroit area and Chicago - basically a 2-1/2 hour drive either way. Plus, there are two stores in the Detroit area just 20 miles apart!

They need one on this side of the state!
No Apple store here either... we have CompUSA and an independent Apple retailer - Mac Authority... it's just right down the road and they're even an authorized service center
We just got a mini Apple store in the out local mall. I'm in Delaware, we really only have one mall. Sad I know. But it has an Apple Store

The Best Buys here in Northern VA have been selling the Apple iPod and its accessories for years.

Not only do you have an Apple Store, but a tax free Apple Store. So us South Jersey folk can drive down there and buy tax free gear (Bought my Mini and my 12" PowerBook there).

Thanks!

i work at a best buy canada store and there is a nice little apple section including 12 and 14' iBooks, 15' and 17' powerbooks, 17' and 20' Imac G5's a eMac and both models of the mac mini... in stock. Truth is however that very few people who work with me know what they're talking about when it comes to mac's. There are a couple guys I work with who are apple certified, hope you get to talk to them when you walk into best buy.

cheers.
