i'm taking pictures with my canon s500 in superfine mode at the highest resolution possible (2592 x 1944). when using image capture to transfer these pictures on to my powerbook, i find that when i open up the images in photoshop they only open at 180 pix/inch when what i really want is 300 pix/inch, and are 11 x 14 inches in size. when opening the same image in illustrator i get the standard 36 x 27 inches in size without changing anything. why wont these images open up in photoshop at the quality level that i want. my friends 3.2 mp camera takes images that are 22 inches long and i'm only getting 14 from my 5mp??? just doesn't add up. any help would be appreciated and feel free to move this thread to the proper forum if need be. thanks in advance.
canon s500 and photoshop help!!!!
My s400 (practically the same cam with 4.0 MP) takes images at 180 DPI as well. That's what it saves the JPEGs at, no way to change it, you'd just have to make them 300 in Photoshop.
36x27 inch graphics at the resolution you mention works out to 72 DPI, so I guess Illustrator isn't respecting the DPI of the files (I don't think this is correct behavior, but I'd have to double-check that). If you're going to be printing these, 72 DPI is a no-no!
