Mini down to $430 at LAComputer Company

I'm shopping for a mini, and have been waiting for an update.

I just noticed that the base model is down to $430 at LA Computer Company Store:

I'm so tempted to get one now, but perhaps this means an update is on the way sooner rather than later?

Tomorrow is tuesday.... Hmm....
The shipping time on Apple's site is still at same day shipping. Usually when there is an update about to happen the shipping time changes to 3-5 days or more. You never know though.

The price at the link is a good one. If you need one right now and price is an issue I would say go for it. The money you save can go toward a 1GB RAM module. Also, you don't have to pay taxes.
Actually, the shipping time for the stock models is now 6-8 days... it must have just changed after you looked.

Looks like we'll be getting updated mini's tomorrow.
How about that

I guess since they changed that I would definitely wait. It looks like tomorrow is a good possibility.

I just took a look at the PowerMac line and the 1.8GHz is at 7-10 days shipping. It looks like it might get updated a little also. 2.0GHz and a bump in RAM and HD might be in order.
Interesting....
Definitely interesting. Its fairly quick for an update cycle ... but then again, its not currently adequate to take full advantage of Tiger, which is a big no-no (the iBook is the only other laggard in that respect). I hope there are some other niceties thrown in to the mix (maybe BT built-in for free ... or something to sweeten the pot).

I just hope both it an the iBook are updated relatively soon so stock will be readily available in time for "tax free weekend" in August.
I ordered my made to order mini on June 7th from the Apple store and was given an est. ship date of 6/13. On 6/13 the ship date was changed to 6/24. That sounds to me like an update is in the works. I hope so!

If it happens to ship before an update you may be stuck with it since it was built to order. If it does get updated while you are waiting hopefully it will make you first in line to get one of the new ones.
i figure a speed bump would be:
1.33 - 1.5 with a FX5200
still think it'll come with only 256 of ram but i think i'd still buy a 1.5 as my 1.25 is enough for simple things but anything heavy it seems to choke even with a gig of ram.
Hopefully Apple will go ahead and put 2 RAM slots in with this update. Also, I think it would get the 64MB 9600 Radeon which is the same as the eMac. The 5200 is probabaly dead at this point.
2 ram slots would be awesome, but i'm not sure how they could fit it into the design, unless they went to 2x SODIMM slots, and a 9600 would be great, i'd buy one the day they came out
I doubt they would redesign the motherboard so soon. We're stuck with one RAM slot for now.

With memory so cheap, just buy it 3rd party and sell the 256MB (or keep it for another machine)
I would pick one up in a heartbeat if they came with a 9600 and 2 RAM slots. I know a few people who would take the leap. That would make the perfect second machine for me.

So-dimms are cheap? I guess that depends on your definition of cheap.

edit: My bad. For some reason I thought it used a so-dimm. I'ld better flame myself:
Noob.
It needs a graphics card update and optical audio out. A case redesign would also be nice--one that would allow easy access to its innards.

Beyond that, I wouldn't mind a switch to regular-sized SATA HDs. Won't fit? OK, make the Mini taller. In fact, make it a Cube. Now all kinds of stuff will fit!

I've seen it rumored somewhere that the mini will have 256 RAM on the motherboard, leaving the slot empty. That would be great.

I also have my fingers crossed for an update this week, I'm about to sell my Dell and want a CI-compatible mini!

That would be an excellent idea to solder a chip into the board itself, hope they have room for a chip like that tho, on an already cramped board
Yah, 256MB on-board with an empty slot would be a great compromise.
Just checked Apple's site and the mini is back to same day shipping.
Yeah, I noticed that too. I decided to put a few bucks into fixing up my PC, and then waiting for an update to the mini.
Looks like they raised the price to $460 now.

That helps me resist buying and waiting for an updated model.
How baout 512MB soldered for up to 1.5GB total? A guy can dream, can't he?
