Please read the contents before starting. This information will help you to get up and running smoothly. This CD is a demonstration of an exciting new form of publishing which combines narration, photographs, video and music in an interactive story. Track 1 of this CD contains this story and can be played back on Macintosh™ computers with 13" color monitors. Tracks 2 to 9 contain spoken narration which will play on standard CD-Audio players. The interactive program on this CD-ROM is based on the book “From Alice to Ocean” by Rick Smolan with text excerpted from Robyn Davidsonʼs novel “Tracks”. ______________________________________ GETTING STARTED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS • To run the “From Alice to Ocean” program, you'll need: - a color Macintosh LC or faster computer - a 13" RGB monitor set to 256 colors - an AppleCD ROM drive or equivalent - the QuickTime system extension installed - at least 4 MB RAM (We recommend turning off any screen savers while viewing the CD-ROM.) • The program will run in System 7.0 or System 6.0.7. We recommend running in System 7.0 on lower-end machines (IIci and below). • The program will play best on drives with faster access times such as the Apple CD-300. • The program will play best from faster computers such as a Macintosh Quadra or IIfx. MEMORY REQUIREMENTS • You'll need at least 2.6 MB of free RAM to use “From Alice to Ocean”. “From Alice to Ocean” requires a minimum of 4 megabytes of RAM to run under System 6.0.7 or System 7.0. If you have no more than 4 MB RAM, we recommend that you disable any memory-intensive enhancements in your system. If your System is running larger than 1.4 MB on a 4MB machine, your extra fonts and inits are taking up RAM that “From Alice to Ocean” needs. Select “About this Macintosh” under the Apple Menu to see how much RAM is being used by your System and how much RAM is free. INSTRUCTIONS • Insert the “From Alice to Ocean” CD into the CD caddy that came with your CD- ROM drive. Follow the instructions that came with your CD-ROM drive. • Set your monitor to 256 colors from the Control Panel under the Apple menu. • (optional) Set the volume level from your Control Panel under the Apple menu to 7. • If QuickTime is not installed, copy the QuickTime extension from the folder “System Software” on the CD-ROM to your startup System Folder on your hard drive. Restart your computer. • To begin the story, double click the Camel icon titled “From Alice to Ocean”. ______________________________________ AUDIO • The “From Alice to Ocean” CD-ROM contains audio that will play back from your Macintosh as part of the interactive program.
