What is Weather Grok™?
Weather Grok™ is a simple application used to grab the latest
weather conditions from NOAA. Weather Grok™ uses NOAA's
ICAO codes to lookup the weather conditions for your area.
Weather Grok provides a simple, easy to use interface to the
information on local weather provided by NOAA. Weather
Grok™ can get this data at specified time intervals or whenever
you wish. Please note that the NOAA weather server is not the
most reliable and/or stable server on earth, sometimes Weather
Grok™ may not be able to get the current weather exactly when
you wish.
How do I Grok this?
Simply launch Weather Grok, and choose the closest city to you
from the Stations popup menu. If the city that is closest to you is
not located in the menu, fear not. Simply open the Station list
window by either pressing Command + L, or by pressing the
"Edit List" button. Then you can choose to add a new weather
station by pressing the "Add" button. The "Station name" field
in the "Add Weather Station" window can be anything you wish
it to be, as it is not used by NOAA. The ICAO code field,
however, MUST be a valid 4 letter ICAO code. A list of these
codes can be found at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oso/
siteloc.shtml Simply look up the city closest to you, and enter
that code into the ICAO code field. Save your changes, then
select the new city from the menu, and press the "Update"
button.
How do I use the Mini Grok window?
Weather Grok now includes a Mini Grok window which will float over all other active windows, showing you the current
weather graphics and temperature. To switch from the large window to the Mini Grok window, simply choose File then
Mini Grok from the menubar, or hold down the Command key and press M. When the Mini Grok window is open, the
large window will hide itself. To go back to the large window, control click on the window and choose "Large Window"
from the menu (see below), or hold down the Command key while clicking anywhere on the window.
How can I control what station I want, or see more weather info from the Mini Grok window?
The Mini Grok window now has contextual menu support. To invoke a list of commands, control click on the window.
To see more detail about the current weather, shift click on window.
How can I save my list of default stations if I reinstall the application on another Mac?
In version 3.0, Weather Grok keeps a file called Weather Stations in the Preferences folder of the System folder. This file
has all of the custom weather stations you have added. Simply copy that file to the preferences folder of any Mac you
want to move Grok to, and the stations will be there. Optionally, you can keep that file in the Weather Grok folder itself if
you wish to use multiple copies of Weather Grok, each with their own list. If you do this, it will use the list in it's own
folder by default. For users of version 2.x who wish to keep the list for version 3.x, simply t…
