Copy Protection Update Your Microsoft R software is no longer copy protected . This update describes how this change affects you . Please read this update before you read the User's Guide . Copying the Master Program Disk You can now make exact working copies of the master Program disk. Before copy protection was removed, Macintosh had to read identification from the master before you could start the program with a working copy. Because a backup copy of the master Program disk is no longer included in the package, one of the first things you should do is make a copy . Always work with a copy of the master disk, and store the master in a safe place . References to the Program disk in the User's Guide are to the copy you make of the master . You copy the master Program disk the same way you copy any other Macintosh disk: a From the Finder, drag the Program disk icon over the icon of a blank, initialized disk. Important Even though copy protection has been removed, you may copy your Microsoft program only for your personal use . It is against the law to copy your Microsoft program on magnetic tape, disk, or any other medium for any purpose other than your per- sonal use . The complete text of the license agreement is on the disk packet. Starting the Program Because the working copy you make is an exact copy of the mas- ter Program disk, you no longer need to insert the master to start the program . You can start the program from the working copy . Using a Hard Disk If you have a hard disk, you can use your Microsoft program from the hard disk . No special procedure is needed . You simply copy the program by dragging the program icon over your hard disk icon . Caution When you copy the program to your hard disk, drag only the program icon over the hard disk icon . Do not drag the icon for the entire Program disk . If you drag the icon fog the entire Program disk over the hard disk icon, Macintosh may replace information already on your hard disk with just the in- formation on the Program disk . To copy the Microsoft program to your hard disk : II From the Finder, double-click the Program disk icon . Drag the icon for the program (not the entire Program disk) over the hard disk icon . 0 Drag the Help icon over the hard disk icon . Additional Help If you have specific questions about using your Microsoft software, you can get additional help from Microsoft's Product Support group by calling (206) 882-8089 . If you call, please have the following at hand : • The product number on your disk label • The User's Guide for your Microsoft software Part Number : 070-096-012
