Recent techniques have allowed content distributors to dictate very intrusive restrictions on our use of the media we buy, to the detriment of the fair use rights granted us by US copyright law, as well as that of most civilized nations. The MacTheRipper project was created to remove the restrictions imposed on the DVD Video standard format for movie distribution, so that DVD owners may exercise their right to make backup copies or convert to different media formats. MacTheRipper is intended for legal use by DVD purchasers, and we in no way endorse copyright infringement or intellectual property theft. Due to the ever-evolving restrictions imposed by DVD distributors onto their customers, as well as the sums of money being spent on content protection, it is a constant battle against both their new technical developments, as well as their lawyers shutting down our web hosts and chasing us around. Yet we are convinced that this is a noble fight, and we will persist for as long as possible, in order to preserve our rights through technical means, since our supposedly representative governments have so severely failed us. MacTheRipper (MTR) is a free DVD ripper (extractor) for Mac OS X. It is capable of copying your DVD movies to your Mac’s hard drive without all the copy and region restrictions, with all quality intact. This is ideal for saving your kids‘ favorite movies from rough handling, or making copies for the car, or for a trip.
