ReadMe Harpoon II v1.0.0 Table of Contents Installation Instructions System Memory Recommendations System Anomalies Emulation Concerns Installation Instructions On the CD-ROM you received, there are two application files named Harpoon II and Harpoon II PowerMac, this ReadMe file, a copy of the SimpleText editor, and a folder named Resource. There are four ways to install this game: I. Drag the Harpoon II CD-ROM Finder icon to your hard drive. This will make a folder called Harpoon II CD-ROM on your hard drive, which will contain the entire game (about 40 MB). If you are playing on a PowerMac, throw away the file called Harpoon II. If you are not playing on a Power Mac, throw away the file called Harpoon II PowerMac. II. Play directly from the CD-ROM. This method of play will run slower than method I. It also makes the game take much longer to launch. III. You can copy just the application file that applies to your computer (Harpoon II or Harpoon II PowerMac) to the hard drive. The first time you launch the game, you'll be asked to locate various resources needed by the game which are still located on the CD-ROM. Once the game knows where these files are, you won't have to tell it again unless their location changes. This method is faster to load than method II, but still runs slower than method I. IV. You can copy the application file as in method III (above). In addition you can copy some of the folders from the Resource folder on the CD-ROM. First, make a folder called Resource in the same folder on your hard drive to which the application has been copied. Next, copy any desired folders to your new Resource folder on your hard drive, from the CD-ROM's Resource folder. To enhance game performance, we suggest you copy the Annex Data and Text Resources folders. This uses a small amount of disk space and speeds up the game compared to method III. If you plan on looking at the pictures in the Platform Display a great deal, you should probably copy the Picture Resources folder also. System Memory Recommendations If you have less than 16 MB of RAM, you should turn on virtual memory in the Memory control panel, and set it to twice the amount of non-virtual RAM. For instance, if you have 8 MB of non-virtual memory, set your total virtual memory to 16 MB. You will have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. System Anomalies We have noticed a problem with QuickTime™ 2.0 and Harpoon II. The problem we found was a crash bug as Harpoon attempted to open and play a movie file. Replacing QuickTime™ 2.0 with version 1.6.1 solved the problem. This problem does not occur with all computers, but if you experience crashes while videos are playing, you might try using a different version of QuickTime™, or turning off the videos (in Game Preferences under the Settings Menu). Emulation If you are using a PowerMac and Harpoon seems to be running slow, make sure you are using t…
