What’s New in the Painter 7J Update? Update Info The Painter 7 Update is now available. The following outlines the new features and updated functionality that is included in the Painter 7 update. New Features 1. Tablet Support for Mac7 OS X: The Painter 7 Update now provides tablet support for Mac OS X users. In order for the tablet support to be functional, please make sure you have the following: Wacom USB Tablet Mac OS 10.1 or higher. At the time of this release, the current version of Mac OS X is 10.1.1. The latest Wacom tablet driver for Mac OS X. At the time of this release, the latest driver is Driver 4.71-8, which was released on November 20, 2001. To download the latest Wacom driver, please visit Wacom's Web site at www.wacom.com. 2. New Tinting Brushes: Tinting is a layer-based artistic technique in which transparent brush strokes are applied over existing grayscale artwork to add color. Tinting is based on the Gel compositing method, which lets users add transparent layers of color to an image without opaquely covering it. Prior to Painter 7, tinting was accomplished using the water color brushes on the wet layer. To provide users with a much more realistic simulation of water color media, Painter 7 replaced the wet layer with a new water color layer. However, many users are accustomed to using the wet layer for tinting and are unsure how to obtain the same tinting effects using the more advanced water color in Painter 7. To help users recreate the tinting effects made possible by the water color brushes in previous versions of the application, Painter creator John Derry has developed a new library of brushes called Tinting Brushes. For more information about how to use the Tinting Brushes in Painter 7, please refer to John Derry's Tinting Visual Guide.
