The Graphic Exchange
By John MacLean. This program allows you to exchange virtually any Apple It
graphic image from one format to another. Supported formats include normal and
double low-resolution, high-resolution, and super-resolution, as well as Print
[Shop, Print Shop GS, and Newsroom clipart and photos. The program can take
lgraphics directly from DOS 3.3 Print Shop and Newsroom disks, as well as from
|MacPaint files on Macintosh disks.
Graphics can be examined, cropped, scaled; colors can be inverted and colors
can be dropped from backgrounds.
If you're interested in desktop publishing on the Apple Il and you want to be
fable to take advantage of all the graphics available today, you should have this
too! at your side. The Graphic Exchange requires an Apple IIgs with a minimum
lof 768K (256K motherboard + 512K expansion card). Not copy protected. Hard
disk compatible. Published by Roger Wagner Publishing.

SoftSwitch
By Ken Kashmarek. SoftSwitch turns your Apple ligs into a deskfull of Apple lies
you can use all at the same time, You can switch instantly between completely
different applications. Imagine being able to flip back and forth between
AppleWorks, Publish It! , and Talk Is Cheap, for example, without ever quitting
anything, Return to any of the programs exactly where you left off.
Ive been using SoftSwitch since its introduction. It is one of the few programs |
luse every day. 'm convinced that SoftSwitch has done more for my personal
productivity than any other ligs software package.
The current version of SoftSwitch has no copy protection and is implemented
as a Classic Desk Accessory. Up to nine programs can be suspended at once if you
have enough memory. Suspended programs can be a mix of ProDOS and DOS 3.3
based software (GS/OS programs can't be suspended, although you can run a
|GS/OS program while ProDOS and DOS 3.3 programs are suspended).
You can save suspended programs in mid-operation and resume exactly where
you left off later by loading them in from disk. You can copy and paste graphics
screens between programs and you can ‘take snapshots’ of any graphics or text
screen.
Softswitch requires an Apple ligs with a minimum of 768K (256K motherboard

Programming the Apple ligs in C and
Assembly Language
By Mark Andrews. A good introduction to programming the ligs with the Apple
Programmers Workshop. The book covers how to get simple programs up and
Tuning with both the APW assembler and C compiler. The section on C doesnt
teach much about the language, but it does cover what C programmers need to
know to use APW (and what C students need to know when learning C from
standard texts while using a llgs and APW).
About half of the book covers the llgs toolbox. Discussion includes the Memory
Manger, QuickDraw I! and graphics, the Menu Manager, windows, dialogs, standard
file operations, and sound and music.

Incoming call router:
Autoswitch TF-500
If you pay for, or are planning to pay for, extra incoming phone lines so that you
can have a separate phone number for your computer or fax machine, the
Autoswitch TF-500 can save you a ton of money.
You can connect three devices to this switch—telephones, answering machines,
computers, fax machines, and even multi-line phone systems. Outgoing calls from
each device work normally, with the exception that unused devices are *blocked”
while another device is in use—no more disruptued modem transfers because you
forgot and picked up the telephone handset.
Incoming calls are first checked to see if the calling device is an autodial fax
machine. If itis, the call is automatically routed to switchbox extension 1.
All other incoming calls are routed to the primary switchbox line. However,
either the caller or the receiver can transfer the incoming call to switchbox
extension | or 2 by simply pressing the | or 2 touchtone key on their phone.
If your primary device is an answering machine, you could have a message like
this one:
Hi, this is Tim. If you wish to leave a voice message, begin
speaking after the beep. If you wish to transmit a fax, press 1.
If you wish to connect to my computer, press 2. Or leave a voice
message at the beep and then press 1 for the fax or 2 for the
computer .
While the Autoswitch TF-500 was designed to save small offices the expense of|
an extra phone line for a fax machine, it is a versatile little device that can add
incoming call routing via touchtones to any phone system. Even multiline users
can attach the TF-500 to the last line in their system and publish that as their fax
number. An answering machine hooked in as the primary device can answer the
phone with a message such as “Press | for the fax machine, Press 2 for operator
assistance,” Extension 2 on the TF-500 would then be connected to the multiline
phone system, Outgoing calls would operate normally, fax calls would go to the
fax machine, and the odd call that came in on the last line when all other lines
were busy would get a phone message to press 2 (or you could ask them to leave
‘a message that you'd answer when things cooled down a bit).

CIRTECH's SCSI interface card
Combat the shortage of Apple SCSI cards, save $30, and get a card
that allows several computers to share a hard drive. CIRTECH’s SCSI
cards can be used in a ligs, Ile, or II-Plus and with any standard SCSI hard
disk or other device.
CIRTECH has developed a SCSI Multi-User Network System that allows
lup to seven computers to share one or two SCSI hard disks. Each
computer must have a CIRTECH SCSI card; each computer gets its own
partition that no other computer can write to. A common area can hold
read-only programs and data files. Partitions can be readable by all
computers or private.

SCSI interface card
CIRTECH's SCSI interface card brings the world of SCSI hard
Jdisks to your Apple ligs, lle, or ILPlus. SCSI stands for "Small
|Computer System interface’. Ths isa standard, defined by the ANS!
X3T9.2 specification, which devices such as the Seagate STxx#N
family of hard drives adhere to.
CIRTECH's card comes with software that allows you to spit SCSI
hard disks for use with up to four operating systems~-ProDOS (or
JGSIOS), DOS 3.3, Pascal 1.3, of Microsoft Softcard CP/M 2.208 or
2.23.
Unlike Apple's SCSI card, CIRTECH' card, with the addition of
[SCSI network software, can be used to share one or two hard cisks
[among as many as six or seven computers (a maximum of eight
devices total), Each computer has a private area on the disk

SCSI network software
CIRTECH's Multi-User SCSI software allows several computers to
"share" up to two high-capacity storage devices. This provides a
cost-etective way to attach several computers to a hard disk. Using|
a 64-megabyte Seagate ST277N hard disk assembly, for example,
six computers could have “private” 10-megabyte hard disks for $200-
$250 per computer.
The software spits the hard disk up into “user partitions”. Only the
computer that owns the partition can write tot. Partitions can also be
“read-protected” at the users option. Operating system partitions can
be created inside a user partition.
Each computer also has access to a “common” partition that can
be used for read-only data and program storage. You'll need al
CIRTECH SCSI card for each computer and one network package
A2-Central Developer Conf
The only conference in the world just for Apple l developers.
Kansas City—Friday and Saturday—July 21-22, 1989
Meet the people who will
make the Apple II's future
While we're pretty proud of the collection
of sessions and panels we're putting
together for this conference, we also
recognize that the real opportunity for most
attendees will be the chance to meet with
other publishers and developers.
The setting for our conference, a small
college campus in deepest, darkest America,
lends itself to meeting and talking with other
‘Apple II people day and night. Classrooms
and lounge areas will be available for
discussions and demonstrations throughout
the conference.
Compare our sessions, compare our
timing, compare our price to Apple's own
combined Apple II/Macintosh developers
conference (to be held in San Jose the week
after AppleFest Boston), and you'll see that
the best place to meet the Apple II people
you want to meet this year will be Kansas
City.
Our conference fee includes all meals
(Thursday evening through Sunday morning)
and free dormitory accommodations for
early registrants. This will be your best
chance this year to make the contacts you
need to achieve your Apple II-related goals.
