Marathon Magazine LITE March '95 is the text-only edition of an early fan magazine devoted to Bungie's Marathon, edited by Ben M. Chess and uploaded to Info-Mac in March 1995. The LITE build strips out the bundled programs, textures, and other binaries from the full issue so readers on slow modem links could grab the articles without a long download.
What 'Lite' Means
According to the editor's own posting, the LITE version explicitly omits the programs and files featured in the magazine. It is the magazine itself, not a stripped-down build of the Marathon game engine.
Inside the Issue
The March 1995 table of contents includes "Phun Textures for your Editor," "Marathon GIF," "Marathon Alternate Console," "Top 5 Physics Models," a letter from the editor, "The Story of Marathon," "Marathon Walkthrough Chapter 2: CounterAttack," and a list of Marathon Internet Sites.
Community Snapshot
The issue captures the early Marathon scene at its most active: physics-model tinkering, custom textures, walkthroughs, and curated lists of FTP sites and web pages, all aimed at players hand-modding the game on their own Macs.
Distribution
Marathon Magazine LITE March '95 was distributed through the Info-Mac Archive under game/com/mthn alongside the full issue, as freeware.
